Check the person before the promise

A logo can be copied. A state license record is harder to fake.

Doctor or physician assistant

Georgia’s medical board licenses doctors and physician assistants.

It also reviews the written agreements, called protocols, that a nurse practitioner signs with a doctor in order to prescribe.

The public lookup shows whether a license is active.

It also shows public orders issued by the board.

Nurse practitioner

A Georgia nurse practitioner needs a written agreement with a doctor to prescribe.

That agreement must be filed with the medical board.

Check the nurse practitioner’s license with the nursing board. Then ask which doctor signed the prescribing agreement, and check that doctor with the medical board. One record does not replace the other.

What a clean lookup means

Before you rely on it

Useful, not magical

An active license record means the state currently allows that person to practice.

It does not rate judgment, manner or fit.

A missing name, wrong profession or inactive status is still a clear stop sign.
