What a real visit needs to cover
A visit is not a test of whether you know the right words. Bring the facts you have. Leave with a plan you can repeat back.
Bring a clean list
- Current medicines and supplements
- Allergies and past bad reactions
- Major conditions, procedures and pregnancy plans
- The result you want and what has already been tried
- Any label, package or web claim that raised a question
Listen for real questions about you
Speaking for the state boards nationally, the Federation of State Medical Boards stated in May 2026 that choosing a treatment off a menu, before a clinician has properly assessed your health, falls short of proper care.
A useful visit has room for follow-up questions, reasons for the choice, alternatives and a plan if the first idea does not fit.
